A few weeks back, Facebook pushed an update to their mobile application that added “Stickers,” the company’s new way to express yourself. The update also brought “Chat Heads” and a few other features, making the overall experience much more useful. The stickers, as useless as I found them to be, had not been added to the Messenger app until earlier yesterday, oddly enough. Read on for the details.

Google Updates Play Store to Stop Apps Updating Themselves

Google Play Logo

Google has pushed out an update for its Play Store to version 4.0.27 with very minor tweaks. One think it has changed however is its policy on Apps bypassing the Play Store to update themselves.

Google has added a new part to the policy under Dangerous Products that reads

An app downloaded from Google Play may not modify, replace or update its own APK binary code using any method other than Google Play’s update mechanism.

Google Play Store 4.0.27 Policy Update

The update will not effect most Apps in the Google Play Store but one that it will have an impact on is Facebook.

Facebook’s latest update for their Android App gave it exactly the ability that Google is now forbidding.

Upcoming Jailbreak Tweak Puts Facebook Chat Heads Everywhere

iOS Facebook Chat Heads

Facebook this week updated their iOS App to version 6.0 earlier this week. The new version had a slight redesign but the major new feature was the introduction of Chat Heads.

Chat Heads was first seen in Facebook Home for Android but because of Apple’s strict lockdown of their device Facebook Home can not work with iOS.

Facebook did the next best thing and introduce Chat Heads inside the Facebook App for iOS but an upcoming new Jailbreak tweak will allow Chat Heads anywhere within iOS

What is a Facebook phone?

facebook-phone

Facebook is holding a media event in a few days, and if the rumor has it, it’s going to be fairly large, turning out a large handful of new stuff. We already wrote about the new Facebook Messenger for iPad application, something that attracts much more media attention than it’s worth. However, we’re getting tidbits that make it appear as if Facebook is planning on launching a phone. All I can think is “Oh no.”

We’ve been waiting for Facebook Messenger for iPad for quite some time now. I mean, some people use iPads and some people message their friends on Facebook and those two circles occasionally overlap. I would be far more excited if Messenger for iPad got released when I still had a Facebook account or an iPad, however, it’s still going to be a nice release. This Facebook media event will be bringing more than a new iOS app; the chances of seeing an entire Facebook OS and a Facebook phone running this operating system are significantly higher than normal. Oh, and the iPad app is going to be kick-ass.
